My Platform

A Place to Call Home

  • Affordability and the cost of living remain top priorities for me. Which is why I’m proud Council has made meaningful progress in addressing Banff’s housing crisis through the Housing Action Plan, a strategy I have championed from the start. Because of this plan, we’re anticipating more new homes in the next few years than were built in the past decade.

  • Looking ahead, I’m committed to exploring opportunities for building more affordable rental and ownership housing on town-owned lands. And I will continue to support smart, well-designed density through incentives and policies that help private developers contribute to our housing goals.

  • Housing affordability and availability remain major challenges for many residents. That’s why we must work toward a healthier rental market, with a target vacancy rate of 3% to give people more choice, stability, and security.

  • I will continue to champion initiatives from the Community Social Assessment and Resident Satisfaction Survey that promote wellbeing and make it easier for residents to thrive in a community that’s also a global destination.

Sharing Banff with the World

  • Tourism is Banff’s primary economic driver. It is strongest when it is sustainable and regenerative, when it protects nature and contributes to community wellbeing.

  • That is why as mayor, I will continue to work closely with Banff & Lake Louise Tourism and Parks Canada on the Lead Tourism for Good 10-year vision to ensure tourism continues to benefit both people and the park. It’s been two years since its adoption and together, we are collaborating, learning, and taking action to show how tourism can be a force for good towards a sustainable future.

  • At the same time, I hear the growing concerns from residents about overcrowding during peak seasons, particularly in the summer. As visitation increases, we must protect the quality of life for those who live and work here, as well as the visitor experience.

  • I stand behind a destination stewardship approach and a unified human use management strategy to help us strike the right balance between welcoming the world and preserving what makes Banff liveable and unique.

Doing Our Part

  • Climate change is affecting communities across the country, and as a global tourism destination, Banff has an opportunity to lead by example. We can reduce our carbon footprint while adapting to warmer temperatures and increasing wildfire risks.

  • I support moving Banff toward a cleaner, low-carbon future. I'm eager to keep exploring the actions in the Renewable Energy Transition Roadmap to make this vision a reality.

  • Living in a national park is a privilege that comes with responsibility. We must protect this extraordinary place for future generations. That means investing in enhancements to Roam Public Transit, reimagining Banff as a circular economy focused on sharing and reuse, and strengthening wildfire protection measures.

  • Through my established relationships with provincial and federal governments, I will continue to be a strong advocate for securing funding to support these essential initiatives and ensure Banff remains a leader in climate resilience.

Encouraging Every Voter

  • Encouraging voter turnout has been a key focus in each of my last three campaigns because I believe voting is one of the most powerful ways to shape Banff’s future.

  • I work to motivate every eligible voter, including young adults, to get out and cast their ballot. We have meaningful work ahead as a community, so my goal is to see more voters participating than in 2021.

  • Here’s a look at recent voter turnout:
    • 1,878 voters in 2013
    • 2,215 voters in 2017
    • 2,090 voters in 2021
